Letter from SAHS President

Dear Saints Community,
THE JOHN & DOROTHY SHEA FOUNDATION is committed to rebuilding St. Anthony High School for generations of future Saints. Mr. John Shea confirmed his support of SAHS, with a $1.1mm campus renovation project presently underway this summer 2006.

Through their Foundation, JOHN AND DOROTHY SHEA have contributed millions to Catholic schools in Southern California in recent years. ST. ANTHONY is their newest "project." In a phone conversation earlier this year, Mr. Shea said; "Dorothy and I really enjoy helping Catholic schools. Go ahead and start pulling permits!" We are so blessed by the Sheas' commitment to Catholic education and their generosity to St. Anthony High School.

Project includes:
  • complete renovation of our existing science labs in both the A and B Buildings
  • a new computer lab in the basement of the A Building
  • renovation of the boys' bathroom in the A Building
  • repaving the courtyard
  • improvements to the Library
  • new paint for the entire exterior of all our buildings, including gym and parish center.

This was all made possible by the generosity and support of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, who has pledged $250,000, which SAHS must match! The Shea Foundation's matching gift will enable us to reach our goal and complete the construction project by September 2006--just in time to welcome new students for fall classes.

Since our 85th Anniversary Party last September, we have been working hard to raise funds to match the Archdiocese's gift of $250,000. Over $75,000 in donations have been received; with the lead gift provided by the Fletcher Jones Foundation--thanks to the intervention and support of Congressman DAN LUNGREN, Class of '64.

Thank you to all who have already come forward in this campaign--grads from near and far--responding to our annual appeal letter sent out just before Christmas 2005. You're awesome, and we are on our way to achieving our goal!

Regina Holden Rushing, Class of '67
SAHS President
