SAHS Success. . .It's Tradition!
The closely-knit campus community at St. Anthony High School is a perfect setting for students to make friends, pursue new interests, and develop academic, sports, and leadership skills. Each student is known, and each student has the opportunity to shine.
Following an 85-year tradition, graduates from St. Anthony are prepared for success in college and in life. Honors and Advanced Placement programs challenge our best students to excel and compete nationally.
Students who struggle receive extra coaching from teachers and a variety of after-school classes to enable them to succeed. Every student takes the Scholastic Apitude test and 96 percent of our graduates are accepted into two- and four-year colleges and universities throughout the United States.

What can we do better than any other school?
St. Anthony High School remains committed to our original mission of service; in seeking ways to improve meeting the needs of students, we ask ourselves:
- What can we do better than any other school?
- What is worth preserving and protecting?
- What should we stimulate to growth?
- What are we passionate about?
We are passionate about preparing our students for success in college and in life. We are passionate about the value of a Catholic education in developing ethical leaders for society. And we are passionate about St. Anthony's 85-year tradition of service and outreach to the greater Long Beach community.
Yes, we are small--offering a huge advantage to our students. Being small enables us to call out the greatness existing within each child; nurturing it in a safe, caring environment of support.
While we are growing, anticipating an enrollment of 500 students within the next five years, we remain committed to remaining a small school, because we recognize that small is a laboratory for greatness. With its great students, faculty, alumni, and community support, St. Anthony High School is well on its way to greatness.
For information about fall 2006 enrollment, please contact the Registrar at 562-435-4496, ext. 213. An entrance exam and interview are required for admission consideration.

Letter from SAHS President
Dear Saints Community,
THE JOHN & DOROTHY SHEA FOUNDATION is committed to rebuilding St. Anthony High School for generations of future Saints. Mr. John Shea confirmed his support of SAHS, with a $1.1mm campus renovation project presently underway this summer 2006.
Through their Foundation, JOHN AND DOROTHY SHEA have contributed millions to Catholic schools in Southern California in recent years. ST. ANTHONY is their newest "project." In a phone conversation earlier this year, Mr. Shea said; "Dorothy and I really enjoy helping Catholic schools. Go ahead and start pulling permits!" We are so blessed by the Sheas' commitment to Catholic education and their generosity to St. Anthony High School.
Project includes:
- complete renovation of our existing science labs in both the A and B Buildings
- a new computer lab in the basement of the A Building
- renovation of the boys' bathroom in the A Building
- repaving the courtyard
- improvements to the Library
- new paint for the entire exterior of all our buildings, including gym and parish center.
This was all made possible by the generosity and support of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, who has pledged $250,000, which SAHS must match! The Shea Foundation's matching gift will enable us to reach our goal and complete the construction project by September 2006--just in time to welcome new students for fall classes.
Since our 85th Anniversary Party last September, we have been working hard to raise funds to match the Archdiocese's gift of $250,000. Over $75,000 in donations have been received; with the lead gift provided by the Fletcher Jones Foundation--thanks to the intervention and support of Congressman DAN LUNGREN, Class of '64.
Thank you to all who have already come forward in this campaign--grads from near and far--responding to our annual appeal letter sent out just before Christmas 2005. You're awesome, and we are on our way to achieving our goal!

Joining SAHS faculty in 2005. .. .the young, hip, energetic, talented Music teacher, JUSTIN PADILLA, justinpadilla@aol.com . Not only is he a gifted saxophone and clarinet player, but Mr. Padilla holds his own with guitar, drums, and piano. . .a virtual one-man band! Possessing two Master Degrees in Music and Music Education, Mr. Padilla comes to St. Anthony's after several years teaching at Mary Butler School of the Arts. His directive, as well as his personal goal is to develop a dynamic instrumental music program at SAHS. First being offered as an extracurricular course after school, Music will eventually move into the regular curriculum as early as Spring 2006. According to Mr. Padilla, whether one is a novice piano player, or highly skilled guitarist doesn't really matter. "What matters is the motivation and the desire." SAHS Implementing Program for Learning Differences
Principal LORI BARR has a number of notable credentials, including a Masters Degree in Special Education, giving her a keen sense of appreciation and understanding for students with learning differences. Lori has been working with LARRY KOMAR, parent advoate and retired member of the Commission on Special Education, California State Board of Education, and LOU CASSANI, Chairman of SAHS Advisory Board. To assist students with learning differences, a three-phased program is being developed:
Phase One: Teacher Training
Phase Two: Series of Parent Workshops
Phase Three: Training students to advocate for themselves
This innovative, effective program will provide yet another way to enhance the educational process for SAHS students, faculty, and families.
